In Kosovo's musical world, Rafet Rudi represents the most prominent and active personality in the last 2-3 decades. His activity as a composer, conductor, and intellectual work in journalism and philosophy of music and continuous membership in the European Academy of Sciences and Art constitute such a statement.

Rafet Rudi, Albanian / Kosovar composer, was born in 1949 in Mitrovica (Kosovo). He studied in Belgrade and Paris. He graduated in Composition (1974) and Conducting (1973), in the class of composer Predrag Milosevic. Very early on, he drew attention to his creative originality. The works of this period are under the influence of neoclassical composers.

In the mid-1970s, he became acquainted with the avant-garde currents of the time. Under the influence of the Polish school (Lutoslavski, Penderecki, etc.), he embraced the new trends of atonal music ((Metamorphosis for Fl., Pf., M.Sop. and string orchestra, "Rrojtja" for guitar and strings, etc.).

He made a significant turn in his creativity with his stay in Paris, as a scholar of the French Government 1979-1980. There, he attended lectures on CNSM in the class of composer Claude Ballif. As a reflection of his studies in Paris, he wrote the pieces: CantataFlijimi” (1983), “Fantasia in Si” (1985) for violin and piano, “Concerto” for guitar and Orchestra (1986) etc. In the 90s “Rudi begins a new phase where the idiom of postmodern music is discreetly integrated ... that rediscovery of tonality serves as the source of new creative impulse"A.Temirzhanova-Basha musicologist). From 1976-2014 he worked as a Professor at the Academy of Music in Prishtina (Analysis of Musical Forms and Composition). Rudi is the leader of the Kosovar Center for New Music (since 1999) and the founder of the Contemporary Music Festival «ReMusica» (2002-2015), through which he collaborates with international renown ensembles and artists Aki Takahashi, Rafael Andia, Marcel Worms, Petrit Çeku, “Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble” -Wien, “Amici della Musica” –Cagliari etc. His works are published in the Editions Musicales Transantlantiques of Paris, Peermusic of Hamburg, etc.

After 2000, Rudi built his expressive language in the synthesis between archaism and modernity freeing himself from any stylistic relevance (the pieces stands out the mostfor soprano and string orchestra,"Concert fantasy"for violin and choirLe tombeau Oubliéfor solo piano ,“In A ”, for 2 sopranos)

Rudi, as chief conductor of the Kosovo Philharmonic Choir performed in Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Italy, England (“A stunning, mystical performance from Kosova Pilharmonic Choir”- Hastings Observer). The Choir’s recordings can be found on various internet platforms and Cassic FM, as a favorite ensemble.  In recent years, Rudi has been dedicated to the discovery, restoration and adaptation of the choral literature of old Albanian authors Gjergj Danush Llapacaj-century. XVI, Jan Kukuzeli-shek. XIII and Niketa of Remisiana-century IV.

Rudi is actively involved in music publicism, music journalism. Rudi has over 400 different articles in the field of essays as well as various articles in the field of aesthetics and music philosophy, which complete his creative profile.

Rafet Rudi is a regular member of European Academy of Sciences and Arts and a member of Albanian Academy of Arts and Sciences.
